When I perform cosmetic, implant, TMJ or routine dental procedures on my Charlotte, NC area patients, I incorporate some non-traditional/supplemental procedures into my traditional dental care. Occasionally a person will call my office and ask if I am a "holistic dentist" or "biological dentist". My staff now explains that no dentist is permitted to describe themselves as a "holistic" or "biological" dentist. We explain that we do traditional dentistry but incorporate some complementary or nontraditional techniques into our care. Then we may explain some of these techniques to the person if they want to know.The American Dental Association and individual states do not recognize a specialty in dentistry for a "holistic dentist" or "biological dentist".Regardless of the terminology, I have received much positive feedback from my Charlotte, NC area patients regarding my therapy and many of my patients have referred family and friends to me for their dental care. Supplemental and adjunctive care has been incorporated in my cosmetic therapy (cosmetic porcelain veneer and cosmetic porcelain crown therapy), dental implant therapy, TMJ or neuromuscular therapy and routine dental care.
Special note: The term "holistic" (as people use it for dentistry) does not refer to religion or
spiritual beliefs (I had people ask this question).
